The Plain of Olives is an area that stretches between Fasano, Ostuni, Carovigno and Monopoli with more than 250 thousand centuries-old olive trees with impressive trunk sizes (some with a circumference of more than 10 meters) and extremely varied.
A huge flat expanse that slopes gently down to the sea, dotted with thousand-year-old plants (also called “the Giants”) that could be up to 3,000 years old.
Monumental olive trees are an element of distinction and an asset at the heart of Puglia’s great appeal, attracting national and international tourists for its great scenic and food and wine value.
Curiosity:
- Apulia boasts more than 60 million specimens of olive trees, about half of them centuries old and 3-5 million even planetary.
- More than 25 percent of the regional agricultural area is planted with olive trees.
- More than 1,200 olive presses are active in Apulia, processing more than 50 varieties of olives.
